Striking staff of the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) have resumed work and returned to the negotiation table in a “temporary” break from their industrial action which began Friday, February 26.
According to the Deputy General Secretary of the Public Service Workers’ Union (PSWU), John Sampah, they are returning to work “for the respect of the state and the Minister [of Employment and Labour Relations] that has come here”.
Staff of the Company began a partial withdrawal of services from Friday, February 26, complaining about mismanagement on the part of the Managing Director, Yaw Kwakwa.
“We believe the only way to turn the fortunes of the company around is the removal of the Managing Director,” they said in their notice of strike.
On Friday, most passengers were left stranded while flights were disrupted at the Kotoka International Airport due to the action.
But the Minister-designate for Employment and Labour Relations as well as some National Security operatives were at the Airport to talk the striking workers out of their action.
“We are halting the action temporarily,” Mr Sampah announced to journalists as they return to the negotiation table for the way forward.
He said the next line of action will be communicated immediately after the meeting.
