Mahama’s attacks on Jean Mensa condemnable – Antwi-Danso
The recent verbal attack against the chair of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa unleashed by flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama, is bad and condemnable, the Dean of Academic Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Dr Vladimir Antwi-Danso, has said.
He said this development is unfortunate and regrettable following the propensity of it breeding fertile grounds for chaos and anarchy in the country.
On a recent political platform, the former Ghanaian leader stated that his party will not accept the results of a flawed elections this year.
A suspicious Mahama said regarding the compilation of the new voters’ register ahead of the polls that “This occasion, December 7, if the election is flawed we will not accept it. Who accepts a flawed election? Nobody.”
“And everything the Electoral Commission is doing shows that we are heading to a flawed election,” he added.
He also described Mrs Jean Mensa as incompetent and further accused her of transferring key staff of the commission to other regions just because they worked under her predecessor Chair Charlotte Osei who he appointed.
Reacting to this development while speaking in a media engagement on Wednesday October 21, Dr Antwi-Danso said such comments are unbefitting of a former president and should not have come from him.
“If an institution is working in a way that is not good, you attack the institution through constitutional means and nothing else,” he said.
He further noted that the former president is permitted to express his views on issues in the country but he should not denigrate and destroy the institutions in the eyes of followers.
He also entreated all Ghanaians to have respect for Ghana’s Institutions and address concerns only through constitutional means.
