The Ghana Education Service (GES) has been engaged by the Minister of Education, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, at a meeting on Monday, August 10 following President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s plea over the punitive measures taken against some 14 final year students.
The sanctions meted out to these 14 were reviewed at the meeting.
The students have now been permitted to write their West African Senior Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in their respective schools.
Nonetheless, they remain dismissed from the schools.
“They are to leave the various school compounds immediately,” a statement issued by the Director General of GES, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa, stated.
The students are from four schools, namely Sekondi College, Tweneboa Kodua SHS, Battor SHS and Juaben SHS.
“Heads of the affected schools should allow the students involved to come to the compounds to write any paper they are due under guardian escort.”
They are to leave the compounds immediately with their guardians after their papers.
Results to be withheld
Meanwhile, GES has served notice that all students in schools were property were destroyed are to be surcharged with the full cost of damage.
“Results of these students will be withheld till they have fully paid for the full cost of the items destroyed.”
The statement by Prof Opoku Amankwa also said the acts of vandalism in the schools must be reported to the security agencies for further investigations.
