Former Black Stars and Inter Milan midfielder Sulley Ali Muntari has hinted on playing for Kaizer Chiefs in the South African Premier Soccer League after holding talks with his agent.
The midfielder is without a club after terminating his six-month loan spell with Spanish Segunda Division side Albacete in June last year.
Describing Chiefs as his “favourite” club in South Africa, the 35-year-old UEFA Champions League winner said he has been closely following the Amakhosi, the Glamour Boys, for quite sometime now.
“I spoke to one agent and I’m not ready to go anywhere. I just want to stay at home and do my business. But I would like to come and play in South Africa because they have great teams that I like: Sundowns, Pirates but my favourite one is Kaizer Chiefs and I don’t know why,” he said in an interview.
“If I want to play in South Africa the only team I want to play is Chiefs.
“And with all due respect to Pirates and [Mamelodi] Sundowns and the other teams that are in the South African league of course this is what I prefer, so that’s the only plan, that’s what I spoke with the agent.
“That’s it and I haven’t said anything more. But why not? It’s home, Ghana is home, South Africa can be home, and any part in Africa can be home. It would be good to come [to South Africa] but I haven’t made my mind as yet.”
South Africa’s Premier Soccer League, which was suspended on 16 March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, has been given the green light by government to resume subject to the clubs meeting stringent protocols.
During his time with the Nerazzurri, Muntari helped the team win the UEFA Champions League, Coppa Italia and Serie A.
He has also played for Portsmouth and Sunderland in the English Premier League.
After leaving Albacete, Muntari has been in Ghana where he has been training amid the coronavirus pandemic in the country.
