There is uneasy calm at the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) as management breathes on neck of employees to sign an oath of secrecy and confidentiality.
Information gathered by 3news.com suggests that staff of the power transmission company have vowed to resist the move to sort of gag them, heightening the anger there.
There are signs of a possible showdown on Wednesday between staff and management over the imposition of the oath of secrecy they are being forced to sign.
A copy of the undertaking from the Human Resources Department of GRIDCo sighted by 3news.com, signed by Mrs Rosina Amuah for the Director of Human Resources and Services, demanded that employees fill, sign and submit the form to the director by May 30, 2020.
Every staff member is expected to write his or name as well as staff number and to “solemnly and sincerely swear” that confidential information they access as staff would not be disclosed to a third party.
“I acknowledge that during the performance of my assigned duties, I will have access to confidential information.
“I agree that all discussions, deliberations, records and information generated or maintained in connection with any work activity and which come to my knowledge by virtue of my work, will not be disclosed to any person during or after my service as an employee, without the due authorization,” the undertaking reads in part.
Staff are to consent that when they flout the oath of secrecy they would be sacked and prosecuted.
“I agree that failure to comply with the Oath of Secrecy and Undertaking of Confidentiality could result in my dismissal from GRIDCo, the instituting of civil or criminal proceedings against me or a combination of any of them.”
After signing to the confidentiality agreement, the manager or supervisor of the employee would have to also sign as a witness.
