Kotoko avoid relegation by settling FIFA, Esperance debts

Asante Kotoko have settled the $240,000 debt slapped on them by FIFA following the arbitration of the case involving the illegal transfer of Emmanuel Clottey from Tunisian side Esperance in 2015.

FIFA would have ordered the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to relegate the Ghanaian giants, among other sanctions, if they had failed to settle the debt by Sunday, May 17.

The ruling was given on Friday, April 10.

But speaking to Kotoko Express App, Spokesperson of the club Kennedy Boakye-Ansah said the Executive Chairman has settled the debts – $225,000 to the Blood and Golds and $15,000 to the committee that sat on the case.

“Dr Kwame Kyei has paid the amounts due Esperance and FIFA in the Emmanuel Clottey issue,” Mr Boakye-Ansah said.

“Thirty thousand ($30,000) US Dollars go to Esperance as an addition to the $150,000 owed Kotoko for the transfer of Kwame Bonsu.

“The Executive Chairman also paid $15, 000 to FIFA.”

He expressed gratitude to Dr. Kyei and also to Ashford Tetteh Oku of Close Marking Consult for “the smooth closure of this case”.

Kotoko had signed Emmanuel Clottey while he had a running contract with the Tunisian giants.
