The 10 per cent of the $1 million arbitration money paid to Davies & Davies Law has been returned to the Ghana Football Association (GFA), the country’s football-governing body has confirmed.
The money was inadvertently paid to the law firm by the erstwhile Normalisation Committee as legal fees for retrieving the arbitration money from Globacom Limited.
The Nigerian multinational telecommunications company had agreed to sponsor the Ghana Premier League for a five-year period but unilaterally abrogated the contract.
Quite recently the President of the Normalisation Committee, Dr Kofi Amoah, confirmed that despite receiving $1 million from the Nigerian firm, $900,000 was lodged into the account of the GFA.
This occasioned a meeting between the new administration of the GFA, led by Kurt Okraku, and the Committee.
“The money was returned to the GFA today, Tuesday, December 3, 2019 and it has since been deposited into the accounts of the FA,” a release from the Communications Department of the GFA said.
