Prof. Lade Wosornu, a retired surgeon, poet and essayist, as part of the 6th Ghana Poetry Festival will be the Poet of Focus for a session dubbed “Poet’s Connect with Students”.
The session, structured to engage students from tertiary to basic schools, would host a conversation with Prof. Lade Wosornu’s selected poems studied in school—Desert River and Raider of the Treasure Trove.
It will also create a platform for audience to interact with him about his career as a surgeon and a poet/essayist while Brownson Adatsi, Lamer James, Euodea Attram, Oswald Okaitei among others perform the poems.
A number of activities have been scheduled the event which comes off on November 9, 2019 at the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA) House,Roman Ridge.
The activities are Poetry Therapy with Mrs Naa Kwaaley Dove, Master classes with Dr. Mawuli Adzei (How To Review A Poem), and with Mr. Woeli Dekutsey (Poetry Writing & Publishing).
There will also be a Poetry Reading with Abednego Ntreh (Poetry in Mother Tongue), Poetry Reading with World Reader, Blast a Balloon, Read a Poem!, Workshop with Dr. Martin Egblewogbe (How to Write Prose Poetry), Copyright Workshop with Bnoska (Copyright Protection of Poetry works), Conversation with Chieff Moomen, Rhyme Sonny, Nana Asaase, Oswald Okaitei (Contemporary trend in Ghanaian Poetry), The “Matriach’s Verse Experience” with Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong Abbey, Master class with Blakk Rasta (Dub Poetry: the beginning, its structure), Conversation moderated by Hondred Percent and Apiorkor Ashong-Abbey on Uniting the Ghanaian Poetry Frontier.
The festival will end with Poetry Spoken word performances as well as music.
There will also be a Children’s corner to be ran by KIDDIE SPORTS (RAED 2 PLAY); where children would be made to read and play video games. There would also be stands for sale and exhibition of literary works.
The festival will open Friday November 8, with a conversation about Prof. Atukwei Okai at the Accra City Hall (within the New AMA Complex near Kinbu SHS).
The session dubbed, “The Lorgoligi Logarithm Conversation: Spotlight on Prof. Atukwei Okai”, will feature high profiled personalities who were connected to Prof. Atukwei Okai (in different ways) in a holistic conversation about him.
They included Nathaniel Nuno Amarteifioo (Former Mayor of Accra), Dr Mawuli Adzei (Senior Lecturer @ English Department, University of Ghana), Nana Kwesi Gyan Apenteng (Former President, Ghana Association of Writers), Comrade Kwasi Pratt Jr. (Journalist/Member SFG) and Fred Agbobli (Poet and trainee of Prof. Atukwei Okai).
“The Lorgoligi Logarithm Conversation: Spotlight on Prof. Atukwei Okai” is designed to touch different aspects of Prof Atukwei Okai’s life and will have reading/performances of his poems (and of others as tribute to him) as well as music performances by the choir from his former school, Accra High School, as interludes.
The Chairperson for the day will be Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur (former Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana)
