A section of the Accra-Tema Motorway was flooded Monday afternoon after a downpour in Accra, leaving motorists stranded for hours.
Water from a bridge which crosses the road at a section of the 19 kilometre stretch was said to have overflown its bank causing that part of the road to flood.
Amateur videos showed plastic and other solid waste floating in the flooded water.
Motorists from both Accra and Tema were cut off by the flooding water creating a gridlock, but some daring drivers managed to drive through the flooded water.
The Ghana Police issued a statement two hours ago to warn motorists using the motorway to limit their speed and be careful to avoid accident.
It said officers had been dispatched to the scene to manage the traffic situation.
When our correspondents arrived at the scene some minutes ago, the water have receded and traffic was moving smoothly.
