Former president Jerry John Rawlings is demanding justice for dismissed Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, Prof. Mawutor Avoke.
A confidential letter, sighted by 3news.com, to Albert Kan Dapaah, the Minister of National Security, Mr. Rawlings wants the “complex situation” which has kept the professor out of work even after being exonerated “looked into”.
Prof. Avoke was suspended in July 2017 and later dismissed in August 2018 few months to the end of his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of the public university over procurement issues. However, probe by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) found among other things, that the former Vice Chancellor did not abuse his office nor breach procurement laws.
He has since written to the Minister of Education demanding his reinstatement.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s former President, Rawlings, believes prof. Avoke has been denied justice. This is after his office was petitioned by Prof. Avoke.
“Honourable Minister, there is a clear ease of injustice here and the continued non-resolution of this matter is justice denied and untenable,” Mr. Rawlings stated in his letter to the National Security Minister.
Also copied in the confidential letter are: Chief of Staff; Chairman, Council of State; President, national House of Chiefs; Minister of Education; and Member of Parliament for Effutu.
“As per the Professor’s request I will be grateful if you can look into the merits of the latest developments and take the necessary steps in consultation with the relevant stakeholders that will be satisfactory, justifiable and equitable in the eye of the law,” he prayed.
