Christopher Mbii of Tafo Golf Club has outclassed 98 golfers to win the Okyehene invitational golf tournament held at the Tafo Golf course on Saturday.
The tournament organized by MTN, was in celebration of the 20th anniversary of Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II
Mbii got 40 points from 4 handicaps in the Men’s Group A, ahead of second-placed Kofi Akyene who had 38 points from 12 handicaps.
Ekow Nyarko placed third with 37 points over 5 handicaps while Kofi Yeboah was fourth with 36 points.
The Men’s Group B was taken by Nash Antwi, followed by Kofi Gyimah, Mike Adu Gyamfi and Nana Yaw Bamfo.
Constance Awuni took the Ladies Group A, beating F. Okyie Gyeabour, while Gladys Awuni won the Ladies Group B edging Ellen Appah.
In the Seniors Division, Maggie Oduro got the top prize with 21 points, while Joe Dadson who got 30 points over 20 handicaps was beaten to the second position by Charles Martey with 38 points in 13 handicaps.
Constance Awuni also won the Closest to the Pin prize with Christopher Mbii.
The Longest Drives were won by Elizabeth Captan and Jerry Tetteh.
Over 90 top golfers from all over Ghana took part in the tournament which attracted CEOs from various companies.
Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II teed up with a sweat shot as he played a 9 hole game to depict his versatility.
He stressed the need to develop golf in the country.
Okyenhene, Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II presented special awards as well as an autographed Akyem Abuakwa history book authored by Robert Addo-Fening to the president of the Tafo Golf Club Mr Prince Kofi Amoabeng, as well as business magnate and the Executive Chairman of Jonah Capital, Sir Sam Jonah, for their support for him as well as for the game of golf in the country.
Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin II described golf as his first love, and called on those at the helm of affairs of the sport to make sure it is grown and improved in the country, adding that it is a sport that changes lives and character hence introducing it to the young men and women would serve a huge beneficial purpose for the country in the not too distant future.
