The immediate past Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of Nigeria, Professor Attahiru Jega, has been invited by the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) for a three-day visit.
He will be in Accra on Thursday, September 12 and leave on Saturday, September 14.
After his appointment in July, 2010, Professor Jega oversaw two general elections in Nigeria.
He oversaw the election of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in 2011 and his defeat by General Muhammadu Buhari in 2015.
He has been invited by the EC “as part of efforts to broaden its scope, knowledge and learn best practices on the electoral process both locally and internationally”.
Prof Jega was in Ghana in 2015 at the invitation of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) to deliver a lecture ahead of the 2016 polls.
Incidentally, the current Chair of the EC, Jean Mensa, was the Executive Director of IEA then.
A statement issued by the EC on Thursday said the former INEC boss “will bring his vast experience and expertise to bear on its operations, especially on the conduct of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections”.
