David Accam has dislodged his Columbus Crew teammate and countryman Jonathan Mensah as the highest earning Ghanaian in Major League Soccer, according to new figures released by the MLS Players Association.
The forward joined Crew last season on an annual income of just above $1 million as base salary.
But it jumps to $1,137,920 while Mensah remains on $800,000 a year as base salary though that also rises to $897,000 with guaranteed compensation factored in at the same club.
Another Black Star player, Ebenezer Ofori, is on a base salary of $325,000 but that rises to $400,000 with his guaranteed compensation worked in.
Columbus Crew has become the unofficial home of Ghanaians in the MLS and they seem to be earning fairly well at the club too.
Another Ghanaian and experienced international Harrison Afful is on $288,000 at the club while the fourth Ghanaian on the books of the same club, Lalas Abubakar, earns $135,000.
Former Ghana Premier League Best Player Latif Blessing pockets $93,750 a year for his efforts at Los Angeles FC.
While those are huge salaries on their own, they are nowhere near the $7.2 million that makes Zlatan Ibrahimovic the highest earning player in the League or the $6 million that US international Michael Bradley earns.
