The Upper East Regional Minister, Ms Paulina Tangoba Abayage, has inspected ongoing developmental projects being undertaken by the government in some districts of the region to assess the progress of work.
At the Tempane district, she inspected the project site for government’s ‘one village, one dam’ at Yabrango, where consultants told her the water level in the dam was high enough to stay through the dry season for farmers to use for irrigations.
She said government will make sure all the dams under construction are completed in good time to serve their purpose.
Ms Abayage inspected various projects at the Tempane Senior High School, including 10 unit Boys dormitory and 6-unit classroom block which are ready to be handed over, and a girls dormitory that is about 70 per cent completion.
She interacted with students of the school and advised them to be disciplined and take their studies seriously.
Headmaster of the school, Mr Patrick Azumah Azanya thanked the regional minister and the government for the projects being executed in the school.
He noted that about 98 per cent of the teachers in the school do not live on campus, something he said was affecting teaching and learning, and also makes controlling of students a difficult task.
Of the 92 teaching staff, he said only five of them are being accommodated in school making which has over 2,000 boarding students.
Mr Azumah noted due to lack of dining hall for the school, the students are forced to eat under trees, a situation that exposes them to food poisoned by insects and other.
The school also lacks transport for both students and head teacher and called on government to come to their aid.
At the Garu district, the regional minister inspected an office complex for the Ministry of Agriculture in the district, one village one dam at Denungu, warehouse, which is the 9th warehouse in the region and a health centre at Dusbulinga.
The minister also inspected a 6-unit classroom with auxiliaries, one village one dam at Agumsi in Atuba in the Binduri district.
Residents at the various communities commended government for the one village one dam execution but asked that the contractors do their work well.
