The chiefs allege the minister’s entrenched position on the sitting of a proposed regional coordinating council office complex is an act of disrespect to the paramount chief of the Wiawso Traditional area.
Addressing a press conference Thursday, Gyaasehene for Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Nana Mensah Aborampah II, described as false a claim by the Western North Regional Minister that his deputy, Alex Tetteh, and the chiefs in the area have connived to undermine him.
He noted, the regional minister was duly informed on reasons for changing the site.
“It is not true that the deputy regional minister connived with the paramount chief of Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Area to change the agreed site for the construction of RCC without the knowledge of the regional minister.
“The decision was taken after realising that the site the regional minister choose was cocoa growing area. The minister raised no objection when informed about the decision only to later turn around and accuse his deputy and the paramount chief of undermining his authority,” Aborampah II said.
The chiefs are therefore calling for the removal of the minister for disrespecting the paramount chief.
“We can’t work with the minister, thus, we want government to relieve him of his post,” Aborampah II said.

The regional minister has however denied all allegations against him
Invocation of curses
Meanwhile, five other paramount chiefs in the Western North Region are, however, disappointed over the invocation of curses by some natives of Sefwi-Wiawso on the regional minister over a dispute with the deputy.
Speaking at a counter news conference, the chiefs demanded of the Sefwi-Wiawso Traditional Authority to revoke the curses as it is against customs and traditions of the land.

“The region has six independent paramountcies and any decision by nananom should either be by consensus or by majority decision. We the five paramountcies herein gathered wish to call on the President to maintain the Western North regional minister, Kingsley Aboagye-Gyedu, to continue with his works,” Nana Paani Marfo II, Adontehene of Sefwi Bekwai Traditional said.
He added: “We also call on the Chiefs of Wiawso Traditional Area to pacify the gods on the curses they invoked on the regional minister as it is against the custom and tradition of the land.
“The Regional Minister needs the support of all to develop the region and attract investors” Nana Marfo II stated.
