Finance managing consultant and author, Marricke Kofi Gane, has declared his unwavering resolve to run for the 2020 general election as an independent presidential candidate.
Mr. Gane is convinced that it is about time the seeming duo-political atmosphere in the country which is dominated by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was challenged to effect change.
Ever since Mr. Gane declared his intention to run for the presidency come 2020, there has been mixed reactions from the public: while others think his ambition will turnout to stamp out the NPP and NDC, others believe Mr. Gane has to reconsider his decision and join one of the leading parties.
But speaking on TV3’s New Day, Monday April 1, Mr. Gane said his ambition to contest the 2020 elections is in the interest of the people of Ghana and he therefore not give up on it.
“This isn’t just about me I will not quit”, he noted, explaining there is no turning back.
“I don’t believe I started this to walk away back, I think for me this is not just about me, it about people and whichever way you look at it, economy is about people, development is about people, so I’m not about to go back on this”, he explained.
He is confident that despite that the NDC and NPP are huge forces to reckon with, he will succeed in disrupting them and to give Ghanaians another option.
“I have what it takes to try and cause disruption, whether that ends up in a total breakup of the duopoly, that I leave it to the Ghanaian people”, he said.
Mr. Gane however acknowledges that whether he gets to lead Ghanaians in 2021 as president or not, it is entirely the choice of the people in whom the power lies.
“But the decision ultimately lies with the Ghanaian people, whether they have had enough of the process and they want to have a change for themselves”, he added.
