The Government of Ghana has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Republic of Germany to establish a German-Ghanaian Business Council.
The signing was done at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra on the sideline of the third German Business Summit.
Minister of Trade and Industry Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, who signed on behalf of the Government of Ghana, indicated that the partnership will further make room for German investors to do business in Ghana to boost the economy.
He further noted that the Council will open up the country for German businesses to engage with local businesses for partnerships and other collaborative efforts.
Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, Thomas Bareib, who signed the agreement on behalf of the German Government, expressed optimism over the establishment of the Council, stating that it further strengthens relations between the two countries.
The German-Ghanaian Business Council is expected to also facilitate economic cooperation and promoting bilateral trade and investment between the countries.
Through the Council, business opportunities will be identified with trade and investment-related activities exploited by both countries for the enhancement of bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation.
The Council is also expected to hold consultations on specific trade and investment matters of mutual interest.
Specific constraints to mutual trade, investments and economic cooperation will be identified with both countries collaborating to find solutions to addressing these constraints.
The establishment of the Council will facilitate the exchange of information and views on economic cooperation, trade and investment.
It will further promote industrial cooperation on small and medium scale enterprises and also collaborate on matters of mutual interest in respect of multilateral trade negotiations.
