The four persons nominated to the country’s Supreme Court will face the Appointments Committee of Parliament between August 20 and 23 to justify their suitability for the top judicial job.
President Akufo-Addo in July this year submitted the names of the four to the Speaker of Parliament to approve their nomination which was approved by the Council of State in April this year.
They are justices Samuel K. Marful-Sau, Mrs. Agnes M.A. Dordzie, both Court of Appeal judges, Nene Amegatcher, former Ghana Bar Association President and Prof. Nii Ashie Kotey.
First to appear before the committee on August 20 will be Prof. Ashie Kotey, who was an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana.
Justice Dordzie and Nene Amegatcher will take their turn on August 22 while Justice Marful-Sau will end the vetting process with his appearance on August 23.
Ahead of their vetting which will be done publicly, the Committee is inviting the public to submit to it memoranda on the four nominees by August 14.
If approved by parliament, the number of Ghana’s Supreme Court judges will move to 16.

In dismissing the case against the two government officials, Justice Marful-Sau held the findings of a Commission of Inquiry could not be the basis of criminal charges against the two.
In 2015, former Attorney-General Martin Amidu who is now the Special Prosecutor, claimed Justice Marful-Sau was ‘highly’ recommended by the Judicial Council for nomination to the Supreme Court but was sidestepped by the President as punishment for his decision in that case.
