The mortal remains of high- life maestro Charles Kofi Amankwandoh Mann, aka C.K Mann, was on Saturday laid to rest at the Takoradi cemetery in the Western Region.
CK Mann who was sick for close to three years, died at the Ghana Ports and Harbour Hospital in Takoradi at 7:00 am on March 20. He was 83 years.

He was sent Saturday morning sent to the Christ the King Catholic Church for burial service before being taken to his eternal resting place at the Takoradi cemetery.Present at the funeral were old musicians like Daddy Bosco, Kakaiku Number two, Pat Thomas and Gyedu Blay Ambolley, among others. Also present were the GHAMRO executives, some hiplife artistes like Kofi Kinata and Nero X.A number of politicians, traditional leaders, the clergy also graced the occasion.
His music career
The late C.K Mann started his musical exploits in the 1950s in Takoradi where he lived untiil his demise. He joined the Broadway Combo, the third band formed by the Broadway Cinema Company.
He joined the Kakaiku Band in 1962 and moved to the Ocean Seven band in 1966, which he led till the early 70s when the owner of Princess Cinema, Anis Mubarak invited him to lead the Carousel Seven, then a newly formed resident band of the Princess Night Club.
Together with Paapa Yankson as backing vocalist, the Carousel Seven Band gained popularity and C.K Mann started composing his own songs holding a basic “osode “ beat with a solo guitar.With his unique beat, he shot into the limelight and prominence with his single record, “Edina Benya”.
In his own words, “the raw and pure osode vocal ensemble is quite unique and can’t be equalled by anyone other than the fisher folk”. This however changed gradually to appeal to a wider audience.
He was the first musician to introduce saxophone and trumpet into music in Ghana.
CK Mann’s career spanned well over four decades and his enduring contribution to highlife music earned him the accolade “Highlife Legend”.
The multi talented musician was also a guitarist, pianist and producer.
