The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources has issued a strong warning to persons who are in the trade of using motor king tricycles popularly referred to as ‘bola taxi’ to convey refuse, but do not dispose it off properly.
The ministry is particularly alarmed by reports of “indiscriminate and rampant dumping of refuse along the Tema Motorway and other major highways”.
A statement from the ministry dated June 19, under the signature of sector minister, Joseph Kofi Adda, indicates such illegality will not be allowed to fester under its watch.
It cautioned “the operators of these vehicles that stringent measures have been introduced to effectively monitor this illegal practice and that the security personnel have been deployed to apprehend and bring to book such culprits”.

The ministry also informs the public that effective Thursday, June 21, the Kpone Landfill Site will be opened at all times for the disposal of waste.
It is the expectation of the ministry that operators of the “bola taxis” and other waste collectors will take advantage of the opening of the site to dispose off their waste appropriately.
It further calls on the general public to be on the watch and reports improper dumping of waste to security agencies to effect arrest.
