The Northern Regional Police Command has assured members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) that the police would not connive with anyone to rig the upcoming regional elections for anybody.
The police in the Northern Region say they do not align with any political party; hence they would only be focused on ensuring the safety of lives and property and making sure that peace prevails before, during and after the election.
The Northern Regional Chairman of the NPP, Daniel Bugri Naabu, had accused the Northern Regional Minister, Salifu Saeed, and some District Chief Executives (DCEs) in the Region of working to thwart his re-election bid.
Daniel Bugri Naabu also accused the Northern Regional Police Commander, ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong, and his men of interfering in the internal elections of the party.
But reacting to the accusation on Onua FM’s Yen Nsempa Thursday, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, refuted the claims made by the NPP Regional Chairman.
“If the party has anything they should resolve it, because the police will not vote for the NPP or at the NPP congress. The commander has nothing to do to ensure the downfall of Mr. Naabu,” he noted.
He added: “If he had any evidence that the commander had printed anything to ensure that he loses, then he has a case. [The Regional Police Commander] is not a delegate so, nothing will happen and we shall not be closer to the ballot box as delegates will be.”
DSP Tanko noted that the Police Commander has no power to make Bugri Naabu lose.
He therefore charged Bugri Naabu to concentrate on the delegates and make sure they accept and vote for him, instead accusing the Northern Regional Police Commander.
