The Fomena T.I. Ahmediyya Senior High School in the Ashanti Region has been closed down, albeit temporary, following a fire outbreak that destroyed the girl’s dormitory.
This is the second time within two months that the school has been affected by fire at a girl’s dormitory. At least four fire incidents have been recorded in the school within a year.
This prompted school authorities to sanction an early midterm to enable the students go home for officials to assess the damage and consider the next available option.
According to sources, the latest fire outbreak started on Tuesday afternoon during classes hours and affected at least two big rooms housing about 90 girls.
Items such as beds, chop box, mattresses, books, bags, computers and others were completely burnt.
The Headmaster of the School, Abdulai Ayyub, who assumed duties just weeks ago, said the temporal closure of the school would afford the school authorities some time to put things right.
Abdulai Ayyub calls for support
“The students are expected back next week Wednesday” he disclosed.
He appealed to the government and stakeholders in education to come to their aid.
