The National Lottery Authority (NLA) has given operators of ‘banker to banker’ a 6-month ultimatum to regularize their operations or face the full rigors of the law.
Director-General of NLA, Kofi Osei-Ameyaw, at a stakeholder engagement announced that regularizing activities of these private lotto operators will help generate revenue for national development.
Activities of banker to banker operators are reportedly costing the country millions of revenue.
Kofi Osei Ameyaw was emphatic that the illegal operators who do not register with the NLA by December 2017 will be punished.
“The law doesn’t give illegal or private lotto operators any room to operate. But we have given them the amnesty to operate, provided they pay their set out fees to government. They have to regularize”, he stated
He adds that the NLA would establish and deploy a Lotto Taskforce to arrest recalcitrant wayside operators.
“There are a lot of lotto courts and we are also bringing in the lotto police. They will do their work and prosecution will begin”, he added.
