There was a good Ghanaian representation in the Champions League third qualifying round first leg as clubs battle to get into the main draw.
Former U-20 star Joseph Attamah, ex-Medeama center back Kasim Nuhu and striker Patrick Twumasi all played for their various clubs with varying degrees of success.
Twumasi would be the happiest on the night after his goal helped home side Astana FC to a 3-1 win over Legia Warsaw, handing them a priceless two goal advantage ahead of the return leg in Poland.
Twumasi raced unto a through pass in injury time as Warsaw pressed for an equaliser to give Astana the much needed advantage.
It was a different story though for Nuhu who was on the losing end in Kiev as his side Young Boys went down 1-3 to leave them with lot of work to do in the return leg next week.
In Brugges, Joseph Attamah was involved for the full game as a center back for Istanbul Basaksehir as they drew 3-3 in a thrilling game that set up the Turks perfectly for the return leg.
Now Attamah, called up for Ghana’s pre Nations Cup camping and his teammate Emmanuel Adebayor will be hoping they can finish the job and move a step closer to the dream of a Champions League group stage place.
