Former President Rawlings turns 70
As part of the 70th birthday celebration of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Former President John Dramani Mahama has wished him a happy anniversary.
He wished him in a tweet on Thursday.
Flight Lieutenant (rtd) Rawlings was born on June 22, 1947 to Victoria Agbotui and James John Ramsey, a chemist from the United Kingdom.
He is the Founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), a party led to the polls on two occasions by John Dramani Mahama.
Mr Rawlings came to power in a coup d’etat in 1979.
After handing over in 1979 to a civilian government, he returned on December 31, 1981 as the chairman of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC).
In 1992, he returned the country to civilian and was president for two terms.
