The Private Enterprise Federation (PEF) is demanding the government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) to begin publishing reports of their meetings.
According PEF, the publication is expected to help investors both local and foreigners to make decisions regarding investing in the right areas in the economy which will yield the needed returns in profits while creating employment opportunities.
PEF’s demand comes at a time that the Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia disclosed that the New Patriotic Party government headed by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has put in place a functional Economic Management Team which meets every week.
The EMT according to Dr. Bawumia is mandated to review the health of the economy and take decisions which is to create the enabling environment for the private which is expected to be the engine of growth when they meet.
The Chief Executive Officer of PEF, Nana Osei Bonsu, said the time has come for the EMT to make public reports from their meetings which will help the business community to make decisions regarding the economy and how to invest rightly.
“The EMT is a constitutional mandated body which takes decisions that have impact or you will say adverse effect on the economy and we have to make sure that it is working. And do make sure it is working, like the Bank of Ghana Monetary Policy Committee does by making public report on decision taken at their meetings. So we also want to see the workings of the EMT and make sure that at least we can contribute to their efficiency.”
“We are talking about something like the report which will detail what the Bank of Ghana is saying about the economy, what the Ghana Statistical Service and other research organisations are saying, plus what the private sector is saying about the economy. When it ficer of PEF, Nana Osei Bonsu, orow e the if we don’nuel Gamor, would be taking place tommorow ers that do have some outstands put together and reviewed then an investor can say, yes this is relevant but this is not in line with expected results or performance,” Nana Osei Bonsu added.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is said to have put together a powerful 11-member team to help turn the economic fortunes of the country around.
The team included the likes of the former governor of the Bank of Ghana Dr. Pual Acquah, Prof. Gyan Baffour, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, former Vice Chancellor University of Ghana, Legon, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, Kwaku Kwarteng Deputy Finance Minister among others.
