Otumfuo Osei Tutu II this morning got the 61st Vodafone Asantehene Open Golf championship underway with a colourful tee-off at the Royal Golf course in Kumasi together with Yolanda Cuba, CEO of Vodafone to officially open this year’s five-day competition.
Playing over two holes alongside Yolanda Cuba, Mr Kwesi Atta-Antwi Chairman of the Royal Golf Club, Bi-Kusi Appiah, Paramount chief of Manso Nkwanta, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was exciting to watch with his precision shots from the greens to the finish, triggering spontaneous applause from the spectators, including, Mr Osei Asibey Antwi, CEO of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Hon Kennedy Kankam, MP for Nhyiaso constituency and the regional head of the National Sports Authority Joshua Mensah.

Over 300 golfers across the country and neighbouring countries, including Togo and Nigeria, are expected to battle it out for the ultimate prize to be presented on Sunday.

Top players such as Victor Brave-Mensah, Vincent Torgah and Amos Koblah are expected to use the competition to settle who the best professional player in the country is by Sunday when the championship ends.

Golfers from the host clubs are aiming to give the Asantehene a befitting 61st anniversary celebration by dominating the competition and probably picking the ultimate prize in the amateur scratch and handicap events.

The Asantehene Open Golf championship is an annual golf tournament organised by the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi in honour of their Patron and King of the Asante Kingdom, Otumfou Osei Tutu II.
