Some members of the Environmental Health Task force of the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem municipal Assembly in the Central region were Friday dawn subjected to severe beatings at Bantuma, a suburb of Elmina.
The task force was in the area to arrest persons who flout the assembly’s laws to engage in open defecation at beaches and other open spaces in the area.
The task force according to the Municipal Sanitation Officer Alex Damptey were beaten and chased away by community members who joined forces with the offenders arrested by the task force for engaging in open defecation.
Ultimate news’ Central regional correspondent Kwaku Baah-Acheamfour reported that the assembly is yet to report the incident to the police.
The KEEA Assembly in the last month has waged relentless war against open defecation in the area leading to the successful prosecution of 14 people caught in the act as they were made to pay a fine of GH¢400 each by the magistrate Court in Elmina.
