Future Stars (Akwaaba) Netball Club put up an inspiring performance to lift the trophy at stake for the Greater Accra region’s Independence Day netball championship held at the Tema Community 8 No. 2 School Turf.
They emerged the best among a competitive field comprising some of the finest netball sides in the country and lifted the ultimate trophy at stake.
The event was organised to commemorate Ghana’s 69th Independence anniversary and was supported by the Netball Federation of Ghana (NFG), with the presentation of three trophies for the championship.
In all, seven clubs participated in the tournament, which was watched by high-profile guests including Mr David Copperfield, the Tema Metropolitan Sports Director, who represented the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Ms Ebi Bright.
Competing in Group ‘A’, the group winners were Spice Girls with six points, Generations with three points to finish second, and Future Queens, who ended the group campaign pointless.
The eventual winners, Future Stars, topped Group ‘B’ with seven points, followed by Matrix in second position with six points, Netball Newbies in third with three points, and Vision in fourth with just a point.
Fans were entertained with an intense final game between Spice Girls Netball Club and Future Stars (Akwaaba) Netball Club, with the latter prevailing 5-4 to claim victory.
The Best Player trophy was awarded to Princess Addae, Goal Attacker (GA) of Future Stars (Akwaaba), for her accuracy, skills, and dexterity throughout the tournament.
The General Secretary of the Ghana Netball Federation (GNF), Mr Ernest Owusu Dankyi, who represented the President of the federation, Rev. Emmanuel Nikoi, expressed satisfaction with the organisation and congratulated the winners for their discipline.
