Ejisu MCE faces vote of no confidence threat

Twenty-nine members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have given Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Jerryne Asante a one-week ultimatum to resign or face a vote of no confidence to oust her from office.

The one-week ultimatum comes as a grace period, since an attempt to pass a vote of no confidence was aborted last Friday because the assembly hall remained locked.

The assembly members, while addressing a press conference at Ejisu in the open appealed to President Mahama to remove the MCE from office alleging financial mismanagement, abuse of power and poor administrative leadership.

The position of the complainants follows a series of unaddressed directives previously issued by the Assembly’s Public Relations and Complaints Committee (PRCC) during a meeting on April 30, 2026 when MCE Asante was given a two-week deadline to resolve several pressing issues.

George Kuntu Blankson, assemblyman for Kwamo and Spokesperson of the aggrieved assembly members said as at last Friday, the MCE had failed to address their concerns. He said not even her summons to appear before the Public Relations and Complaints Committee of the assembly in April, this year, to answer some charges and subsequent recommendations to the General Assembly on April 30th, 2026 could bring about the needed change.

“We have unanimously resolved to pass a vote of no confidence in Jerryne Asante, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly,” he said, and explained that the MCE is not working in the interest of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly, as she lacked knowledge in the workings of the decentralisation system.

Allegations are that the MCE has failed to oversee the demolition of a structure encroaching on a public road in Akyawkrom, as ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction among other allegations.

The Spokesperson said even though the issue came up at the General Assembly meeting on April 30, 2026 and she was given an ultimatum to address the issues, within two weeks after the meeting, but she failed to do so.

The aggrieved assembly members also accused their Municipal Chief Executive of unilaterally causing the mass transfer of some key personnel in disregard for local governance laws, thus creating tension among civil servants and putting the development of the area in jeopardy.

They said her lack of understanding of the technicalities and the local governance system, the relevant laws, rules and regulations has affected the implementation of the General Assembly’s decisions.

In the circumstance, the embattled MCE was compelled to stay away from office to avoid the wrath of the angry assembly members and could not be reached to speak to the allegations.

Meanwhile, the assembly members have also cautioned the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, to stay clear from undue interference in their resolve to remove the MCE from office.

They alleged that the Regional Minister had instructed the presiding member to either postpone or stop a planned meeting in their resolve to pass the vote of no confidence in the MCE.

They emphasised that apart from the Presiding Member, the model Standing Orders and Act 936 does not provide for the RCC or Regional Minister to interfere in Assembly meetings.
