The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old man suspected to be a key distributor of narcotic drugs in Berekum and its surrounding communities in the Bono Region.
The suspect, identified as David Frimpong, was apprehended by the Berekum Divisional Police Command at Nyamebekyere, a suburb of Berekum Municipality, following what police described as an intelligence-led operation.
According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Bono Regional Command and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the suspect was arrested at his residence, a semi-completed building. Police say he attempted to flee upon sighting officers but was swiftly apprehended.
A search conducted at the premises uncovered 57 compressed slabs of dried leaves, 195 wraps of dried leaves, and three sacks containing quantities of dried leaves, all suspected to be Indian hemp. Officers also retrieved a container of ‘groundnut cake’ toffee believed to have been mixed with the suspected narcotic substance.
In addition, six pairs of scissors, 14 packs of cigarettes, and 190 wrapping papers were found in the house. The items have been retained as exhibits for evidential and forensic examination.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect is allegedly a dealer in narcotic drugs and has been distributing the substances within Berekum and its environs.
Police say the suspect remains in custody assisting with investigations and will be processed to face the full rigours of the law.
