Dr Bryan Acheampong has wrapped up an extensive tour of the northern sector with a final engagement in the Savannah Region, bringing to a close what party insiders are increasingly describing as one of the most impactful regional campaigns in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential race.
Spanning the Upper West, Upper East, North East, Northern and Savannah regions, the tour went beyond routine delegate visits.
Supporters say it challenged long-held assumptions, reshaped internal dynamics and injected fresh momentum into the contest across the northern belt.
A defining moment of the tour came in Jirapa, where a nephew of S.D. Dombo – one of the most revered figures in the party’s history publicly endorsed Dr Bryan Acheampong.
Within NPP tradition, the Dombo name is synonymous with inclusion, grassroots empowerment and national unity.
The endorsement was, therefore, widely interpreted as a strong signal that support in the north is increasingly gravitating towards credibility, organisation and electability.
In Walewale, the hometown of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr Acheampong was met with packed gatherings, chants and visible enthusiasm from party faithful.
Delegates at the event commended his discipline, preparedness and perceived ability to return the party to power in 2028, suggesting that his message of renewal is gaining traction even in traditionally emblematic strongholds.
The tour also made notable inroads at the grassroots level. In Saboba, Assembly Members publicly declared their support for Dr Bryan Acheampong, thanking him for intentionally engaging them, an acknowledgement they said had long been missing from party leadership. They linked the marginalisation of grassroots stakeholders to the party’s performance in the 2024 elections and pledged to carry his message into rural communities nationwide, describing him as a leader who listens, respects and empowers the base.
A similar pattern emerged in the Savannah Region. In Salaga South, the Constituency Secretary disclosed that although Dr Acheampong was the third presidential aspirant to visit the area, he was the only one to draw such a large turnout of Kokomba supporters. The crowd size, he said, reflected genuine grassroots enthusiasm. He noted that supporters were visibly pleased to receive Dr Bryan Acheampong, adding that the unity of the party was increasingly rallying around his candidacy.
Throughout the northern tour, Dr Acheampong delivered a consistent message to delegates, urging them to support him with the assurance that he would equally stand by them.
He stressed that backing his candidacy would not only strengthen the party’s prospects of returning to power in 2028, but would also free delegates from what he described as pressure politics, insisting that no one should feel compelled to vote out of fear, coercion or obligation.
Local party executives echoed this confidence.
Wa East Chairman, Sumaila Kankuronye, said he had known Dr Bryan Acheampong for many years and witnessed his contributions to the party, expressing the belief that he is the right candidate to lead the NPP back to power.
Wa West Chairman Abdulai Seidu also described him as a unifier, saying such leadership is essential for victory.
As Dr Bryan Acheampong closed the northern chapter of his campaign in the Savannah Region, his team immediately extended the momentum into the Upper East Region.
The tour concluded in Zebilla, the final stop of an intensive one-day sweep across the Kusasi enclave.
In a move his supporters describe as unprecedented, Dr Acheampong became the only aspirant to visit five of the six Kusasi constituencies – Pusiga, Garu, Tempane, Binduri and Zebilla.
Party officials said the visits were deliberate and methodical rather than symbolic, with each constituency engagement focused on direct interaction with delegates and community leaders.
Supporters argue that the tour underscores a leadership style defined by discipline, resolve and strategic planning, adding that as the party looks ahead to 2028, competence and organisation must be demonstrated in action rather than rhetoric.
