Swedru All Blacks Communications Director Nathaniel Obeng believes calls for Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku to resign will not address the deeper problems affecting the Black Stars.
Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers has intensified pressure on the GFA leadership after the Black Stars suffered defeats to Cote d’Ivoire and The Gambia.
The 4-2 loss to The Gambia was particularly damaging, with Ghana surrendering a two-goal lead at the Accra Sports Stadium to remain bottom of Group C without a point.
Despite the growing criticism of Okraku, Obeng argues that changing the GFA president alone would not resolve the problems facing Ghana football.
“My personal view is that if we personalise it, this situation that we are finding ourselves in, we’ve been here before. There was a whole lot of campaign to get somebody out of the system. So the person was ousted, a new person came, and now we are complaining about the same thing,” Obeng told the media.
“So, meaning, it might be that it is not an individual problem; it’s a systematic problem. I believe getting Kurt Okraku out of the system won’t solve the problem. It is a system problem.”
The Black Stars are now under pressure to revive their qualification campaign when they face Somalia in a double-header in November, with both matches scheduled to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium.
