Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo says he is ready to step in as Manchester City's striker if required after continuing his impressive start to life at the club.
Semenyo scored twice in City's 5-3 Premier League victory over Sunderland on Sunday, with his goals coming either side of half-time as Enzo Maresca's side maintained their perfect start to the season.
The 26-year-old also provided an assist for Rayan Cherki, marking the fourth time in his career he has scored and assisted in the same Premier League game.
Since joining City from Bournemouth in January, Semenyo has scored 13 goals in 34 appearances in all competitions. Only Erling Haaland, with 19 goals in 32 games, has scored more for the club during that period.
Semenyo's goalscoring numbers have also been impressive. He has scored 13 goals from an expected goals (xG) figure of 7.74, while his 20.6 per cent conversion rate is marginally better than Haaland's 20.4 per cent.
With City not signing another recognised striker during the summer transfer window, Semenyo could be called upon to operate as a central striker if Haaland is unavailable.
The Ghana international has no concerns about taking on the role.
“I've heard about his backup striker thing. I don't know where it's come from! But, yes, if I need to, then I'll do it. I've no problem with doing that,” Semenyo told ESPN.
Semenyo also believes his finishing ability comes naturally to him.
“I think that [finishing] just comes naturally. Once I'm in front of the goal, I know it doesn't move. So as long as I hit it in the corner with a good connection, I know it will go in.”
The Ghana international will now join up with the Black Stars for the international break before returning to club action against Liverpool at Anfield on October 11.
