English-Ghanaian defender Kelvin Abrefa has joined Forest Green Rovers on loan from Reading until December, bolstering the club’s defensive options at right-back.
The 22-year-old becomes FGR’s twelfth signing of the current transfer window as they look to strengthen their squad for the season ahead.
Abrefa brings significant EFL experience despite his young age, having made over 80 appearances for Reading. He featured 27 times last season, registering two assists, and added a further 30 appearances during the 2024/25 campaign. A product of Reading’s youth system, he progressed from the U18s to the U23s before making his senior debut against West Brom in the 2021/22 season.
The right-back also has international pedigree, having earned one cap for Ghana’s U20 side. His arrival addresses a long-standing need for cover in FGR’s defensive ranks, giving manager Robbie Savage more flexibility in selection.
“It’s great to have Kelvin with us. He brings a wealth of EFL experience to our defensive options at just 22 years old. It’s a position we’ve needed cover in for a while, so he now gives us good options to choose from in the squad,” Savage said.
