English-Ghanaian midfielder Gideon Kodua scored a dramatic late winner as Luton Town completed a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Reading in their League One opener.
Luton made the perfect start when Jake Richards put them ahead after only six minutes, but Reading quickly turned the game around. Jack Marriott scored three times before half-time, with goals in the eighth, 31st and 38th minutes, leaving the visitors 3-1 down at the interval.
Luton refused to surrender. Kasey Palmer sparked the recovery by scoring twice shortly after the restart, finding the net in the 50th and 52nd minutes to restore parity. The momentum had shifted, and Reading suddenly found themselves under sustained pressure.
Kodua entered the contest in the 81st minute, replacing Palmer, and made his contribution count when it mattered most. In the sixth minute of added time, the midfielder finished from close range after Jake Richards created the opportunity, sending a right-footed shot into the bottom-right corner.
The 4-3 victory gave Luton a memorable opening-day win, while Kodua’s late strike provided the decisive moment in an extraordinary contest.
