Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia: Communication will be key against Malawi

Black Queens goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan believes effective communication in defence will be Ghana's biggest weapon when they face Malawi in the quarterfinals of the 2026 TotalEnergies Women's Africa Cup of Nations. 

The goalkeeper acknowledged Malawi's attacking quality but expressed confidence that Ghana's defensive unit is capable of keeping their opponents at bay.

"As the coach mentioned, they have good players, world-class players, but we know how to handle them at the back," she said.

According to Konlan, maintaining constant communication among the defenders has been central to Ghana's performances throughout the tournament.

"It's just for us to communicate as we did in our previous games. When we do effective communication, we know how to handle them."

She also referred to the two teams' previous meeting, insisting the Black Queens are well prepared despite changes to Malawi's squad.

"With communication and hard work, we can overcome them. We are really prepared for that."

Ghana face Malawi on Sunday knowing victory will secure a place in the semifinals and qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.
