Former Asante Kotoko Communications Director, Sarfo Duku, believes head coach Eric Tinkler has what it takes to guide the Porcupine Warriors to Ghana Premier League glory, despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his appointment.
Duku admits that Tinkler faces a challenging task due to the timing of his arrival and injuries affecting key members of the squad. However, he insists Kotoko’s title hopes remain alive if the players change their mentality and show greater commitment.
“It will be difficult for Eric Tinkler to win the league this season, considering the timing and injuries,” Duku told Luv FM.
“However, if the players change their attitude, he can win it for Asante Kotoko,” he added.
Tinkler was recently appointed as head coach of the record Ghana Premier League champions with the responsibility of reviving the club’s ambitions after a difficult period.
The South African coach takes charge ahead of the 2026/27 season, with Kotoko aiming to reclaim the league title while dealing with injury setbacks within the squad.
Duku also revealed that he pushed for the appointment of a foreign coach before his exit from the club, explaining that disciplinary issues within the team influenced his decision.
“Things were not going well between the playing body and the technical team. I believe we needed somebody to change the attitude of the boys, and the coaches were struggling to take some bold decisions,” he said.
The former communications chief believes Tinkler’s experience and authority could help restore discipline and improve the team’s performances.
Asante Kotoko will begin their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign with an away fixture against newly promoted Debibi United FC before hosting Hearts of Lions in their first home match of the season.
