Ghanaian clubs Medeama Sporting Club and Nations Football Club will discover their opponents for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup preliminary rounds on Thursday, August 6, 2026.
The draws for both competitions will be conducted at the headquarters of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in Cairo, Egypt, where clubs from across the continent will learn their paths to the group stages.
Medeama earned Ghana’s slot in the prestigious CAF Champions League after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League title, while Nations FC secured a place in the Confederation Cup following their triumph in the Ghana FA Cup.
The Tarkwa-based Medeama will be hoping to make a strong impression in Africa’s premier club competition, while Nations FC will look to build on their domestic success by competing against some of the continent’s finest teams in the Confederation Cup.
The stakes remain high, with the winners of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League set to receive a prize of USD 6 million, while the Confederation Cup champions will take home USD 4 million.
CAF has also introduced financial support for clubs participating in the preliminary rounds, with teams eliminated at this stage receiving a solidarity payment of USD 100,000. The initiative forms part of CAF’s efforts to strengthen its Interclub competitions and provide greater support to participating clubs.
In recent seasons, the preliminary rounds of CAF’s club competitions have delivered exciting encounters, producing battles between established continental powerhouses and emerging clubs eager to announce their presence on the African stage.
Medeama and Nations FC will now await Thursday’s draw as they begin preparations for their respective continental campaigns.
