Asante Kotoko should have considered Ignatius Osei-Fosu for coaching role - Kojo Addae-Mensah

The Chief Executive Officer of Databank, Kojo Addae Mensah, beleives Ignatius Osei-Fosu would have been an ideal choice to take over Asante Kotoko's head coach position, insisting the former Medeama coach would have been a strong choice for the club.

His comments follow Asante Kotoko’s decision to appoint South African tactician Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Speaking on Luv FM, Addae Mensah argued that the pool of available Ghanaian coaches for the Kotoko job had become limited, with many of the names being mentioned having already managed the Porcupine Warriors in the past.

“Whoever you mention would be a recycle. All those who are more or less available would have worked with Kotoko before. Frimpong Manso is available and has worked with Kotoko before. Maxwell Konadu has worked with Kotoko before. Everybody you mention has been there before,” he said.

While acknowledging that some observers may feel Kotoko have run out of options locally, Addae Mensah believes Ignatius Osei-Fosu offered a different and promising alternative due to his experience and recent development under Sudan national team coach Kwesi Appiah.

“So yes, to that extent, you could say we've run out of options. We don't really have options. But I know Ignatius is working with Sudan, and I can bet that if we sit down and talk to Kwesi Appiah, he would allow us to have Ignatius,” he added.

Osei-Fosu, who currently serves as assistant coach to Kwesi Appiah with the Sudan national team, previously admitted that he would be open to the Kotoko job if the timing was right.

Speaking to Luv FM in March 2026, the young Ghanaian coach said he would consider the opportunity but insisted that the circumstances would have to be favourable.

Addae Mensah further highlighted Osei-Fosu’s long working relationship with Appiah as a major advantage, arguing that the experience gained from that partnership would have prepared him for the pressure and expectations that come with managing one of Ghana’s biggest clubs.

“I would have considered Ignatius, especially considering his exposure and having worked with Kwesi for so long,” he stated.
