â??My recovery has gone wellâ?? â?? Newly-signed QPR defender Tariq Lamptey optimistic of swift return

Ghana international Tariq Lamptey has revealed that his recovery from injury is progressing well, with the newly signed Queens Park Rangers defender hopeful of returning to action in the near future.

The Black Stars full-back made the encouraging admission after completing his move to Championship side QPR as a free agent during the ongoing summer transfer window, following the end of his brief and injury-plagued spell with Italian outfit Fiorentina.

Lamptey’s time in Serie A was largely derailed by recurring fitness setbacks, limiting the versatile defender to just 25 minutes of competitive football throughout the 2025/26 campaign. The frustrating season ultimately brought his stay in Italy to an early conclusion, but the 25-year-old has quickly secured a fresh opportunity back in English football.

Queens Park Rangers have handed Lamptey a chance to revive his career, with the West London club hoping his Premier League experience, pace and attacking qualities will strengthen their squad ahead of the new Championship season.

While he is yet to make his debut for the Hoops, Lamptey has reassured supporters that his rehabilitation is nearing its final stages and that he is eager to reunite with his new teammates on the training pitch.

“My recovery has gone well and I’m not too far away now. I’m looking forward to joining with the boys.

“Throughout my football journey I’ve always been resilient.

“You can’t really predict what’s going to happen, but you can only put your best foot forward and prepare as well as possible. And that’s what I try to do.”

Lamptey’s resilience has been a defining feature of his career. Born in Hillingdon, he rose through Chelsea’s acclaimed academy before making his Premier League debut against Arsenal in December 2019. His performances quickly attracted the attention of Brighton & Hove Albion, who signed him in January 2020.

At Brighton, the dynamic right-back established himself as one of the league’s most exciting attacking full-backs, making more than 120 appearances across all competitions. His blistering pace, defensive tenacity and ability to drive forward made him a key figure for the Seagulls before he embarked on a move to Fiorentina last summer.

On the international stage, Lamptey switched allegiance from England to Ghana and has since represented the Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. The defender has earned 11 senior caps for the four-time African champions and will be hoping consistent playing time at QPR helps him force his way back into Ghana’s squad ahead of future international assignments.

 

With his recovery nearing completion and a fresh chapter beginning at Loftus Road, Lamptey will be determined to put his injury frustrations behind him and rediscover the form that once made him one of the brightest young full-backs in English football.
