Black Stars captain Jordan Ayew has called for patience as the team works to find the right balance under recently appointed head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Speaking in a post-game press conference with Sporty TV after Ghana's 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the World Cup Round of 32, Ayew expressed his frustrations but stressed that Queiroz needs time to implement his style.
"We have a new manager; he just came two months ago trying to install his style, and people are adjusting," Ayew said. "You don't adjust within one month or two months; football doesn't work like that."
Ayew acknowledged the progress made under Queiroz while highlighting areas that still need improvement.
"You could see that defensively, we were better, but we fell short a bit offensively, so we have to find the right balance," he said.
"The manager needs time; he's a very good manager."
The defeat ended Ghana's campaign and likely brought an end to Ayew's World Cup journey. The 34-year-old has featured in three editions of the tournament â 2014, 2022 and 2026 â and may have played his final match on football's biggest stage.
Ayew finished the tournament as one of Ghana's most experienced figures, leading a young squad that showed defensive resilience but lacked cutting edge in attack.
The Black Stars will now turn their attention to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with Queiroz expected to continue his project of reshaping the team.
For Ayew and his teammates, the message is clear: progress takes time, and the foundations laid in the United States may yet bear fruit.
