Spanish forward Rafa Mir has been sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison after a court found him guilty of sexually assaulting two women alongside another footballer.
The ruling was delivered on Monday by a lower court in Valencia, which found that Mir and fellow player Pablo J. G. sexually assaulted the women at Mir's home in the Spanish city in 2024 while he was playing for Valencia.
The 28-year-old was sentenced to seven years in prison for sexual assault and an additional 18 months for causing physical harm, bringing his total sentence to eight and a half years.
Pablo J. G., who plays in Spain's lower divisions, received a prison sentence of two and a half years after being convicted of sexual assault and causing physical harm.
Mir denied the allegations throughout the proceedings, insisting the sexual encounters were consensual.
The court rejected that defence and convicted both men.
Mir spent the 2025-26 season on loan at Elche from Sevilla, with his contract at the club due to expire at the end of June.
The verdict is subject to appeal under Spanish law.
The decision marks a dramatic fall for the striker, who has previously represented Spain and played in La Liga for Valencia, Sevilla and Elche.
