The Ghana Football Association (GFA) was represented at the Annual Delegates Congress of the Ghana Olympic Committee on Saturday, May 16, 2026, with Compliance and Integrity Officer Obed Tuffuor attending the gathering in Accra.
The congress took place at the Best Western Premier Accra Airport Hotel and brought together sports federation leaders, officials and delegates to discuss major issues affecting sports development in Ghana.
Key discussions focused on athlete welfare, gender-balanced leadership in sports administration and preparations for major international events, including the 2026 Summer Youth Olympics in Dakar, the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2028 Olympic Games.
Delegates also received updates on the OLYMPAFRICA Project at Amasaman.
Addressing the assembly, GOC president Richard Akpokavie called for stronger unity among sports federations to help advance sports development in the country.
“By uniting our efforts and focusing on these priorities, we can collectively advance the objectives of the Ghana Olympic Committee and strengthen the development of sports throughout the nation,” he said.
Akpokavie also highlighted the need for closer collaboration among sports administrators following the recent retreat in Koforidua.
Funding challenges emerged as one of the major issues discussed during the congress, with the GOC president warning that delays in funding continue to affect athlete preparation and sports development.
“My dear federation leaders, the greatest threat to sports development in Ghana remains funding,” Akpokavie stated.
He revealed that financial constraints affected preparations for last year’s School Games and Youth Games and warned that upcoming preparations for the Commonwealth Games and Youth Olympic Games could also be impacted without timely financial support.
