Black Starlets head coach Prosper Ogum has expressed mixed emotions after Ghana surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Algeria in their opening Group D fixture at the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2026 on Thursday.
Ghana started in explosive fashion, scoring twice inside the opening 10 minutes through Yao Gavi Robinho and Eric Adu Gyamfi, before allowing the North Africans to fight back in the second half.
Reflecting on the performance, Ogum described the match as “a very beautiful game,” highlighting his side’s attacking intent and structured build-up play from defence into midfield and wide areas.
“I think it was a very beautiful game. Looking at the way we played, especially out from the back, trying to link up through the middle of the park and then going direct to the centre or to the wings to create chances, it actually worked very, very well for us in the first half.
"I think in the second half we lost our steam a bit, we lost our focus and then we allowed the Algerians to come in and they were able to equalise those two early goals that we scored.
"But apart from the score line, I think on the whole, in terms of performance itself, the boys did very well. They played well as individuals and they played well as a team.”
The draw leaves Ghana with work to do in Group D as they prepare for a crucial second fixture against Senegal on May 17, where Ogum’s side will be aiming to secure their first win of the tournament and revive their qualification hopes.
