Berekum Chelsea boosted their survival hopes with a 2-1 victory over Medeama at the Golden City Park in Berekum, dealing a blow to the visitors’ Ghana Premier League title ambitions.
Medeama went into the contest five points clear at the top of the table, but the gap has now been cut to two points after Bibiani Gold Stars defeated Samartex at home.
The visitors made a bright start and took the lead in the 12th minute when Salim Adams set up Kelvin Nkrumah to open the scoring. However, with their top-flight status still under threat, Chelsea responded strongly.
Seidu Abubakar restored parity six minutes later before Jonah Attuguaye netted the winner in the 66th minute to hand the hosts a crucial three points.
The victory moves Chelsea three points clear of the relegation zone with three matches remaining. They will remain at home for their next fixture against Dreams FC and will be confident of securing another positive result.
Medeama, meanwhile, face another difficult assignment as they travel to Basake Holy Stars in their pursuit of the league title.
