Raymond Asante delivered a big moment for Patro Eisden but could not prevent a heartbreaking 3â2 extra-time defeat away to Beerschot in the Challenger Pro League promotion play-off semi-final.
The Ghanaian midfielder dragged his side back into the tie early in the second half with a well-taken equaliser.
Trailing 1â0 at the break after Brian Plat’s early penalty, Patro responded just three minutes after the restart. Asante arrived in the box to meet a low cross from Milan Robberechts and calmly slotted home for 1â1 in the 48th minute. When Radja Nainggolan then struck on 63 minutes to make it 2â1 to the visitors, the comeback looked on.
Beerschot, however, refused to fold. Ensar Brahic levelled in stoppage time to force extra time, before Genki Haraguchi’s 116th-minute winner ended Patro Eisden’s promotion dream. Despite the defeat, Asante’s performance was a major positive. The 21-year-old now has 10 appearances, 2 goals and 1 assist in the 2025/26 Belgian First Division B season, underlining his growing influence from midfield.
