Incoming Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa says the technical team is focused on delivering a performance that will make Ghana proud at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The South African tactician is set to join head coach Carlos Queiroz after Otto Addo was relieved of his duties in March following consecutive defeats to Austria and Germany. De Sa and Queiroz are no strangers, having previously worked together with the national teams of Iran and Egypt. They will now reunite to lead Ghana’s campaign at the World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer. Speaking to South African outlet KickOff, De Sa downplayed any talk of targets, stressing the importance of representation on the global stage. “It’s all it is, we will do the best we can, there is no mandate to win this and that,” he said. “The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible.” The new technical team is expected to be officially unveiled in Accra on Thursday, April 23, after which preparations will begin in earnest. Ghana are lined up for two pre-tournament friendlies against Mexico and Wales on June 2 as part of their build-up. At the tournament, the Black Stars will compete in Group L, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27. The appointment comes at a crucial moment for Ghana, who will be aiming for a stronger showing at the World Cup after early exits in 2014 and 2022, with renewed expectations surrounding the team’s direction and stability.
