Former Black Queens head coach Nora Hauptle has stepped down from her role as Zambia women’s national team coach, raising concerns over management and structural challenges within the setup.
Hauptle, who left Ghana to take up the Copper Queens job, announced her decision in a statement, confirming she has laid down all her duties and will not be part of Zambia’s participation in the upcoming FIFA Series in Brazil.
The Swiss coach revealed she had submitted a detailed 10-point proposal to the Football Association of Zambia aimed at improving the team’s structure and long-term competitiveness. However, she indicated that key issues remain unresolved.
“As leader and role model with a clear attitude, I want to step out with a transparent statement,” she said, stressing the need for stronger commitment and organisation.
Hauptle described her time in charge as challenging, particularly under new FAZ leadership, despite leading Zambia to qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which also serves as a World Cup qualifier.
She pointed to several areas needing improvement, including administrative efficiency, technical support, planning, and investment in women’s football.
“Passion requests 100% commitment⦠a little bit less effort is not enough to be successful at the highest level,” she noted.
Hauptle added that her decision was meant to push for change, stating she remains open to further discussions if meaningful reforms are implemented.
Her exit comes a year after leaving the Black Queens job, where contract renewal talks with the Ghana Football Association broke down.
