Tamale Super Ladies produced a major upset in the Northern Zone of the Ghana Women’s Premier League after defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies 1-0 on Saturday at the Tolon Astro Turf.
Ampem Darkoa started strongly and dominated possession in the early stages, creating several chances through quick passing and attacking play. However, Tamale Super Ladies remained compact at the back, with their goalkeeper making important saves to keep the scores level.
The decisive moment came in the 52nd minute when Abiba Damba broke the deadlock. She calmly finished after being set up by a precise midfield pass, giving the home side a crucial lead.
Ampem Darkoa pushed hard for an equaliser but were repeatedly denied by a determined Tamale defense and a solid goalkeeping performance.
In another Northern Zone encounter at the same venue on Sunday, FC Savannah secured a 2-1 victory over Ashtown Ladies.
Zulaiha Iddrisu opened the scoring for Savannah in the 4th minute before Sharifa Yakubu equalised for Ashtown Ladies with a penalty in the 23rd minute.
Savannah regained the lead in the 67th minute when Iddrisu scored again, sealing all three points for her side.
